MIDO

Mido – from Spanish “Yo mido” which translates “I measure.”

Mido is a Swiss luxury watch company with a rich history dating back to 1918. The brand was founded by an ingenious Swiss watchmaker George G. Schaeren in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. The company's objective was to create high-quality, innovative, and functional timepieces.

In 1920, Mido introduced its first collection of watches, which included models with unbreakable mainspring. This technical innovation was well-received and contributed to the brand's early success. Mido quickly expanded its reach beyond Switzerland and established a global presence in various markets. The brand also gained popularity for its precision, durability, and timeless designs.

In the 1930s, Mido continued to innovate and received several patents for its technical advancements in watchmaking. Notably, in 1934, Mido introduced the Multifort collection, which featured a unique and durable case design.

The Mido Ocean Star collection was introduced in 1944, further solidified the brand's reputation for creating water-resistant timepieces. These watches were designed for underwater exploration and became popular among divers and water sports enthusiasts.

In 1954 the firm launched the world's most efficient winding mechanism and in 1959, the MIDO OCEAN STAR marked the introduction of the revolutionary single-shell case, eliminating any water-resistance problems from the back of the watch case. The combination of this technology with the aquadura crown sealing system makes Mido watches withstand even the most severe conditions.

Throughout the 20th century, Mido continued to innovate and expand its product offerings. The brand remained committed to producing high-quality watches with a focus on design and functionality. In 1985, Mido became a part of the Swatch Group, one of the largest watch conglomerates in the world. This affiliation further strengthened Mido's position in the luxury watch market.

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women’s watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than today's offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.

We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust the lighting, when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.

The condition is pre-owned.
The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear but is fully operational and functions as intended.
Please review the photos and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

It will be carefully packed.
